Tottenham have received an injury blow at the start of the new year, with the news that main striker Harry Kane is set for a spell on the sidelines after suffering a hamstring tear.
The England captain limped off in the second half of the New Year's Day Premier League game against Southampton in a sight that would worry Tottenham fans.
And their fears were realised when Spurs confirmed the seriousness of the injury: "Following assessment today (Friday), we can confirm that Harry Kane suffered a tear in his left hamstring during our New Year's Day fixture against Southampton," said a statement on the official website.
"Our medical staff will continue to review the injury with treatment ongoing."
The severity of the tear is not yet been revealed by the club. Muscle tears can come at two different grades: grade two being a partial tear, where grade three is a more serious complete tear of the muscle.
As reported by football.london, an injury layoff of around 4 to 8 weeks can be expected for a grade two tear, whereas a grade three tear could require surgery and take up to three months of rehabilitation in order to return to action.
So, the amount of games the striker could miss would depend of if he has suffered a grade two or three tear.
Here is the fixtures that Kane could miss in both scenarios.
