Dele Alli is in hot water with the Football Association.
Earlier in the month the Tottenham Hotspur midfielder controversially posted a video of him wearing a mask over his face on Snapchat with the message 'Corona whattt, please listen with volume'.
He then proceeded to pan the camera to an Asian man, something which has been widely condemned amid the Coronavirus which has killed 774 people worldwide.
Alli has since deleted the video and has issued a statement.
"Hi guys, it's Dele. Just wanted to apologise on my behalf for the video I posted on Snapchat yesterday," Alli explained in a video on social media. "It wasn't funny and I realised that immediately and took it down.
"I let myself down and the club. I don't want you guys to have that impression of me because it wasn't funny.
"I realised that straight away and took it down. It isn't something which should be joked about.
"I'm sending all of my love, thoughts and prayers to everyone in China."
Despite the apology, FA immediately began investigating the controversial video with a view of a potential disrepute charge and disciplinary chiefs wrote to Alli to seek his observations on the post.
On Wednesday evening it was confirmed that Alli has indeed been charged.
A statement on the FA's official website reads: "Dele Alli has been charged with misconduct for a breach of FA Rule E3 in relation to a social media post.
"It is alleged that the Tottenham Hotspur midfielder’s post breaches FA Rule E3(1) as it was insulting and/or improper and/or brought the game into disrepute.
"It is further alleged that the post constitutes an "Aggravated Breach", which is defined in FA Rule E3(2), as it included a reference, whether express or implied, to race and/or colour and/or ethnic origin and/or nationality."
What happens next?
The midfielder has over a week to respond.
"He has until Thursday 5 March 2020 to provide a response," the statement continues.
How many games could Alli miss?
The FA are likely to consider their own ruling from last November that saw Manchester City's Bernardo Silva banned for one game and fined £50,000 for a social media post in which he compared team-mate Benjamin Mendy to the character on a packet of Conguitos.
A statement via the FA's official website read: "Bernardo Silva has been suspended for one first team competitive fixture, fined £50,000 and must complete face-to-face education after admitting a breach of FA Rule E3.
"The Manchester City midfielder’s social media activity on 22 September 2019 breached FA Rule E3(1), as it was insulting and/or improper and/or brought the game into disrepute, and constituted an "Aggravated Breach", which is defined in FA Rule E3(2), as it included reference, whether expressed or implied, to race and/or colour and/or ethnic origin."
Given it took the FA almost three months to make a ruling on Silva as he did request more time to respond, it could be that Alli's suspension - should he face one - doesn't come into play until next season.
