The top causes for complaints in Leeds revealed

Illegal car parking is the most common concern for people living in Leeds.

That’s according to analysis of data from FixMyStreet, a website that lets people easily lodge complaints about issues that need attention from their council.

LeedsLive gathered the past year’s worth of requests from the service to find out which issues generate the most complaints from people living in our city.

Of the 272 complaints logged in the past year, more than a third related to car parking.

One concerned resident wrote: “Four sometimes five trucks and vans parking on pavement. This has been happening for weeks - people can't get past with prams and wheelchairs and people can’t see to get out of the driveways”.

Overall Leeds City Council weren't very responsive, with 82 per cent of complaints still marked as open at the time of writing.

Street lighting was the second biggest concern in Leeds, attracting 11 per cent of the most recent complaints.

One resident wrote:”Outside street light not working. It only got repaired Tuesday and stopped working again this is becoming a regular thing and causing problems as my son is disabled and we can’t see outside when going out as it’s complete darkness.”

The third biggest issue for residents was street cleaning.

One complaint read: “Lots of glass along the road from a group of teenagers who was smashing glass bottles out in the road.

“Glass in road potential hazard for popping tires and causing accidents and hurting other human beings and kids”.

The fourth most complained about issue was parks and open spaces, the fifth was tree-related issues and the sixth was traffic light.
