The top 10 national drivers of 2025

From rookies romping to title triumphs to established stars further boosting their renowned reputations, there were plenty of impressive performers among the top ranks of national motorsport this season.

Competition was fierce at the front and there was no shortage of memorable moments from some intriguing title battles.

Here Autosport attempts to select the top 10 drivers from those racing at British GT events or on the British Touring Car Championship support bill in 2025 – with a separate list to follow later in the year that will focus on the best club-level competitors.

10. Archie Clark (1st in Ginetta GT, 4th in GT Cup)

The Ginetta Junior graduate shone in his sophomore car racing season by winning two titles. Stepping up to the revamped Ginetta GT Championship, Clark adapted to the new G56 GTP8 machine quicker than his rivals by winning the first four races. He bounced back from a non-finish at the next Oulton Park round to triumph again at Snetterton, and he eventually secured the crown in the penultimate encounter at Donington Park.

Also starring in the GT Cup aboard an Aston Martin Vantage GT4, Clark helped Feathers Motorsport take GTH honours as well as fourth in the overall standings.

9. Tom Bradshaw (1st in Porsche Sprint Challenge GB)

Bradshaw knows what it takes to win, having enjoyed past success in single-seaters and historics, but he still nearly missed out on Porsche Sprint Challenge GB glory.

The Toro Verde driver looked on the brink of the title ahead of the penultimate Silverstone event with six victories to his name. But a startline crash threatened to derail his bid and there were more struggles at the Brands Hatch finale that meant Bradshaw crept over the line instead of sealing the Cayman crown in a more convincing fashion. He was still a very deserving champion, just it was more nerve racking than was expected.

8. Kiern Jewiss (1st in British GT)

Charles Dawson’s superiority over his fellow bronze-graded competitors is a key reason for the #42 2 Seas Mercedes winning the British GT title – but co-driver Jewiss also deserves a lot of plaudits. How he handled his rookie series campaign at the age of 23 amid the extra ballast imposed showed a lot of courage, with the way he fended off Sandy Mitchell for victory late in the Donington Park opener standing out.

But he ranks only fourth among the British GT entries here because Jewiss sometimes lacked raw speed against his fellow pros, shown through him qualifying no higher than 10th on three occasions.

7. Jonny Adam (6th in British GT)

Adam displayed his usual brilliance this year, as the four-time British GT champion came close to a fifth title in what was a record-breaking season for the Blackthorn Aston Martin driver. Spa was the obvious highlight, as a victory from pole meant Adam took the championship’s all-time race win total with 20.

But, even away from that, Adam was consistently on the pace with four top-five results in qualifying. He can also be credited for continually improving co-driver Giacomo Petrobelli and things outside of his control simply prevented a stronger title challenge.

6. Andrew Rackstraw (1st in Porsche Carrera Cup GB)

Rackstraw did not score the most points in the Porsche Carrera Cup GB this year – that honour instead fell to Will Martin. But a cluster of clumsy collisions for Martin (now in his sixth Porsche campaign) caused deductions that meant he missed out on the title again to sophomore Rackstraw.

The Century Motorsport driver’s campaign was built upon consistency as he scored points in every race. But he also got his elbows out when it mattered, memorably forcing his way ahead of Martin at Silverstone and then playing a tactical masterclass at the Brands Hatch finale to seal success a long way from home.

5. Rocco Coronel (1st in Ginetta Junior)

We’ve become accustomed to seeing one Dutch star dominating in Red Bull colours at the top of the motor racing ladder, and in 2025 we saw another doing the same on its bottom step. Backed by the energy drinks firm, Coronel became the first non-British champion in the 20-year history of Ginetta Junior as a car racing rookie.

The 14-year-old produced a commanding early run of seven straight wins to pull well clear of the chasing pack, and he added four more victories before comfortably wrapping up the crown with two races remaining.

4. Marvin Kirchhofer (7th in British GT)

Kirchhofer took a British GT sabbatical in 2024, but he was instantly on the pace upon his return by topping three of the opening four professional qualifying sessions this year. Such a remarkable run even included the Optimum McLaren driver storming to the Silverstone lap record, where he trounced the competition by at least four tenths in qualifying.

His raw speed did fade towards the end of 2025 though, with just one top-three result in the final three qualifyings, while race pace wasn’t quite there with no victories. He ultimately missed out on the title at the Donington Park finale with co-driver Morgan Tillbrook.

3. Fionn McLaughlin (1st in British F4)

The Irishman joined an elite group of drivers this year in winning the British Formula 4 crown in their first season in cars, just three having previously enjoyed such success. What made McLaughlin’s achievement more impressive was he competed against a field full of ex-Ginetta Junior frontrunners and hungry sophomores, including chief rival Martin Molnar.

But this did not faze McLaughlin, who achieved five wins and more podiums than anybody else. Yes, there were a few mistakes – that prevented him from being higher in this ranking – but it was still clear to see why the Hitech ace is already on Red Bull’s books.

2. Maximilian Gotz (3rd in British GT)

Gotz may not have won the British GT crown, but he was certainly this year’s best driver. The 2 Seas Mercedes racer simply fell foul of the championship’s old adage that it is the amateur who usually decides the title, because Gotz was otherwise consistently flawless.

He twice topped a qualifying session, and was inside the top three for all-but two of the seven outings, and won two races. Gotz was also impressive in the contests he didn’t win as, in the Donington finale, the 2021 DTM champion rose from seventh to third in the latter stages to seal bronze in the drivers’ standings with Kevin Tse.

1. Alex Ninovic (1st in GB3)

The unflappable Australian surpassed even his own expectations with one of the most dominant title successes that the GB3 Championship has featured. Despite making a low-key debut at the Silverstone opener, Ninovic quickly grabbed the ascendancy by taking a win at each of the next three rounds.

The Rodin racer’s challenge then reached another gear, as he romped to six more victories in the season’s second half to become champion with a whole round to spare. Across the campaign the 2024 British F4 runner-up also racked up an impressive 10 pole positions, the highest achieved in a single GB3 campaign.
