The toilet tissue manufacturer making two million rolls a day

A toilet paper manufacturer is making two million rolls a day.

Wepa UK - the UK’s largest household paper manufacturer - has a site in Bridgend as well as Bolton.

The Bridgend site, which employs around 130 members of staff, is meeting the demand.

Shoppers have been panic buying toilet rolls since the start of the month.

Images of empty supermarket shelves and videos of frenzied shoppers grabbing multi packs of the bathroom item have circulated online where many have condemned shoppers who have stripped supplies.

The government has said there is no reason to stockpile supplies and there is no evidence there will be a shortage in toilet roll or other supplies. However, some supermarkets have limited the number of items people can buy at one time.

Mike Docker, managing director of WEPA UK, said: "The ongoing coronavirus situation means we have seen a large spike in demand over the last week and sales continue to be very strong.

"Our excellent supply chain team has met all our sales orders so far and our manufacturing is geared up to meet these higher volumes.

"We are continually monitoring the situation very carefully and are studying sales patterns of the experiences our colleagues had in Italy a number of weeks ago to anticipate how this will develop."
