The toilet habit which could be a sign of an 'aggressive cancer'

A toilet break in the middle of the night could be a sign of an 'aggressive cancer', medics have warned.

According the Cleveland Clinic, nocturia is a condition that causes you to wake up during the night to urinate.

But medical experts have said that if you have a sudden or increased need to urinate throughout the night, it could be a sign or prostate cancer, the Mirror reports.

Severe nocturia has been found in 25% of prostate cancer cases as a side effect of radiation treatment, studies have shown.

The Cleveland Clinic notes: "This can be thought of as nocturnal urinary frequency - having to urinate more often at night."

Nocturnia typically occurs in the later stages of the disease meaning treatments must start right away.

The NHS adds: "Prostate cancer does not usually cause any symptoms until the cancer has grown large enough to put pressure on the tube that carries urine from the bladder out of the penis.

"Symptoms of prostate cancer can include needing to pee more frequently, often during the night."

According to charity Prostate Cancer UK, the Covid-19 pandemic has added an extra layer of stress and anxiety but anyone with worries should see their GP.

Prostate cancer is the second most common form of disease amongst men, as the charity says about one in eight men will get prostate cancer in their lifetime.

There is an increased risk of prostate cancer if you are over 50, have a family history of the disease or you are black.
