The tiny 'two up, two down' that's sold for £10.5k

A tiny house reminiscent of a Tudor home has sold for £10,500.

The Wendy house was sold at Chorley's auctioneers in Gloucestershire and will now be moved to a new location belonging to its private buyer.

It sits just 45 minutes from Bristol, in Prinknash Bird & Deer Park on the outskirts of Cheltenham, and has entertained thousands of children since it was installed in the early 1990s.

But the building has a much longer history than just its time in the park. The tiny "two up, two down" first appeared in J M Barrie’s 1904 play Peter Pan and was built for the character Wendy Darling.

It was purchased from a reclamation yard in 1991 and installed at Prinknash Bird & Deer Park.

The park was created by cartoonist and artist Philip Meigh in 1974. It was later taken over by his daughter Melanie Meigh but it closed last month and so the Wendy house was put up for auction.

It had a guide price of between £12,000 and £15,000, and was described by auctioneer Thomas Jenner-Fust as a "charming little one up, one down - in the truest sense of the word".

The auction house said it offered ''the unique opportunity for another public attraction or a private individual to acquire a stunning area for children’s parties or perhaps a spot of quiet contemplation for a (small) adult''.

The four-metre high (13ft) house sold for £10,500 at Chorley’s auctioneers in Gloucestershire.

It comes in two pieces so it can be easily transported, as its buyer will have to move it from the site to their own property.
