The timings you need to know for Bristol Balloon Fiesta 2019 including mass ascents and night glows

Bristol International Balloon Fiesta returns tomorrow (August 8) and there are multiple mass ascents, night glows and plenty of entertainment planned.

The event is always a highlight in the city's jam-packed calendar, with the mass ascents and night glows in particular attracting vast crowds.

The festival will run from Thursday, August 8 to Sunday, August 11 at Ashton Court Estate and thousands of people from around the world will visit.

More than 100 balloons will take part in mass ascents while dozens light up for the nightglows.

Here are all the timings you need for the four-day festival, to help you make the most of your time.

Thursday

6am: The festival does not normally start until 12pm, but this year organisers have announced an additional mass ascent. The planned 6am balloon flights have been added in a bid to catch the good weather forecast.

12pm: Hot air balloon tethering will start and run throughout the afternoon.

6pm: Special Shapes. Pilots will be briefed on the weather and then there will be the special shapes launch.

9pm: The first night glow of the event will start as the sun sets. A total of 25 hot air balloons will turn into huge light bulbs and will glow in time to a specially-created soundtrack.

The first evening will finish with a firework finale.

Friday

6am: The fiesta opens and there will be a mass ascent, providing the weather is suitable to do so.

8am: Model hot air balloon competitions will take place.

Noon: Hot air balloon tethering.

6pm: A mass ascent is planned.

8.30pm: Event closes.

Saturday

6am: The fiesta opens and there will be a mass ascent, providing the weather is suitable to do so.

8am: Model hot air balloon competitions will take place.

12-5pm: Arena entertainment

6pm: A mass ascent is planned.

9pm: The second and final night glow of the fiesta will take place. There will then be a firework finale.

10.30pm: Event closes.

Sunday

6am: The fiesta opens and a mass ascent is planned.

8am: Model hot air balloon competitions will take place.

12-5pm: Arena entertainment.

6pm: A mass ascent is planned.

8.30pm: Event closes.
