The Times names Strangford as one of 10 prettiest in UK

A Northern Irish village has been ranked one of the top 10 prettiest in the UK.

The Times has put together a list of the 30 prettiest villages across the nation, including where to stay and eat in the UK's most cosy spots.

Strangford ranked not only in the top 30, but the top 10 - coming 9th place in the listing.

The quaint Co Down village was praised for its candy-coloured houses and boats lying at "drunken angles".

Castle Ward, an 18th-century mansion famed for its mixture of architectural styles, also got the village a spot in the top 10.

Artisan Cookhouse was recommended as a place to eat - a contemporary bistro using the best of local seasonal produce.

Slieve Donard Resort and Spa was suggested as a place to stay, with double rooms starting at £160.

Strangford Lough is classified as both an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and an Area of Special Scientific Interest. It is one of the most richly bio-diverse regions in Europe, according to Ireland.com, with over 2,000 marine species spread across 150km².

Despite this, the village remains peaceful, and is a lovely place to wander around - exploring ruined castles, eating great food, and soaking up the stunning scenery that this unique village has to offer.
