The Times is biggest loss leader

The Financial Times columnist John Plender takes a close look at the accounts of Times Newspapers, the company that records the results of The Times and the Sunday Times (without giving a breakdown between the two). He says that last year's loss of £46.9m was equivalent to 4.1% of the net income of Rupert Murdoch's parent company, News Corporation. Given that the Sunday Times is profitable, he says, The Times "must be one of the biggest loss leaders of all time". (Via news.ft.com)
