The time to hop on the Derrius Guice bandwagon is now

Derrius Guice was all the rage heading into the 2018 season until he wasn’t.

A torn ACL in the preseason left the second-round pick out of LSU on the injured reserve list for his rookie season. A highly-anticipated breakout into the NFL ranks was put on hold while the supremely-talented running back was on the mend.

It’s time for that anticipation to ramp back up.

Coming into this second season, Guice is primed to be the explosive back that everyone outside of Washington (and Louisiana) forgot about. With a year of learning from the sidelines under his belt, as well as the weight of 16 games worth of poundings off of his shoulders, expect Guice to be one of, if not the breakout star in the NFL this year.

While he is still unproven in the bigger and faster level of football, Guice’s time at LSU should provide enough context for fans that are experiencing doubt. At just 21 years old, he has had the opportunity to learn from All-Pro RB Adrian Peterson for a season, while keeping his nose in a playbook and learning how an NFL team operates from the inside.

With an infusion of talent at the QB position (sorry Alex Smith) and a revitalized defense, the pieces are in place for the running game in Washington to ground and pound its way to victory.

Expect the second-year Redskin to have a pivotal role in that going forward. The time to hop on the Derrius Guice bandwagon is now.
