The time Rangers winger Brandon Barker terrorised Liverpool star Trent Alexander-Arnold

The rise of Trent-Alexander Arnold has been astronomical as he's gone from the Liverpool academy to being classed as one of the best right-backs in the world, in just a matter of years.

The local lad from Merseyside doesn't seem fazed by anything that comes his way.

He's faced the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo, Neymar and Leo Messi, but one of the most difficult players he's came up against is relatively surprising.

Brandon Barker. The Rangers summer signing terrorised the English international in an U21s match between Liverpool and Barker's former employers Manchester City in 2016.

City won 3-0 and Barker set up two of the goals, capping a fine performance.

Alexander-Arnold recalled that day, admitting the former Hibs loanee was 'unbelievable' and it turned out to be a real learning curve for the 20-year-old.

He told Goal.com : "That’s probably one of the hardest games I’ve had.

"It was one of the first times I’d played right-back. I hadn’t played there too often. I was up against an unbelievable team and an unbelievable player in Brandon Barker.

"It brings back bad memories for me, but it’s those type of games that help you learn."

Barker scored his first goal for Rangers in last weekend's win over Livingston after arriving at Ibrox as a free agent.

The winger will be hoping to stake his claim in Steven Gerrard 's side, especially with the news that Ryan Kent will miss some time with a hamstring injury.
