The time Rangers star Jermain Defoe held up his hands and admitted he was wrong

Jermain Defoe is a man desperate to score goals every chance he gets.

He showed that in his first Ibrox start when he had attempted to take the second of four penalties awarded to Rangers against St Mirren before James Tavernier pulled rank.

In the end, he was handed the opportunity when the fourth spot kick was awarded late on.

Back in 2014 it looked like Defoe was winding down his career when he joined Toronto in the MLS.

And in one game in particular, the 36-year-old was left with some egg on his face after an incident at a free kick.

Against New York Red Bulls, Toronto were awarded a free kick and Brazilian forward Gilberto decided he was taking it.

Defoe tried to wrestle the ball off him but lost the argument and was visibly angry at what had gone on.

Then Gilberto stepped up and smashed the ball so hard it almost ripped the net off and Defoe was left laughing at how good it was.

The pair made up right away and celebrated together with a unique handshake.
