The Throne of Fire by Rick Riordan - review

It's not everyday you find yourself in hand-to-hand combat with a half-lion, half-bird while you try to take a flaming scroll out of a heavily protected Egyptian museum.

But things like that are the least of Carter and Sadie Kane's troubles. Within five days they have to revive the god Ra, fight the demon Apophis and protect themselves from an army of the world's most powerful magicians.

Rick Riordan's latest book, filled with wit and candour, is definitely a must-read. The story is told in turns by Sadie and Carter Kane (Which makes an interesting, conflicting two-person narrative), two teenage Egyptian magicians (Yes, I know it sounds a little crazy, but that's the truth) who are trying to, as always, save the world.

If they can't stop Apophis, the serpent-headed demon, he'll swallow the sun and leave the world in darkness and ruin. Helped by only a small group of other young magicians, Carter and Sadie face all kinds of troubles in this hilarious, action-packed and dynamic book.

Can they do it? Read The Throne of Fire to find out!
