The three rival deals to shake up Liverpool's transfer deadline day in final hours

Deadline day is coming to a close. The day when season-long transfer strategies go out the window, panic buys fly in, and fax machines break down at the last minute.

Despite a humbling and frankly shocking 7-2 defeat by Aston Villa on Sunday, Liverpool remain favourites for the title.

There’s no doubt manager Jurgen Klopp will still fancy the Reds to defend their crown, and he has added Diogo Jota, Thiago and Konstantinos Tsimikas to a squad that needed some extra depth to compete on all fronts.

Klopp is not a reactionary manager, so Liverpool won’t be panicking after one bad match and ripping up their measured, long-term recruitment approach.

But there are still some deals made by rivals that could shake up the Reds’ transfer deadline day - and we’ve picked out three of them here.

Manchester United move for Sarr

Manchester United may have laboured to a slow start this season, but they could still make waves in the transfer window with a big-money move for a winger.

After being priced out of a swoop for Jadon Sancho, the top brass at Old Trafford have turned their attention to Watford’s Ismaila Sarr.

The 22-year-old was on Liverpool's shortlist earlier this window ahead of the Reds making their move for Jota. And he could now end up joining rivals United instead, potentially bolstering the Reds’ arch-enemy.

Manchester Evening News have reported that a bid has been rejected at this stage.

While the former Ligue 1 attacker could still join United after the end of the international deadline day, with a domestic window in England running until October 16, he would not be eligible to play in Europe for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side if he were to do so.

Manchester City resist Barcelona interest in Eric Garcia

Manchester City have made a shaky start in their efforts to recapture the Premier League title, and recently spent big on Ruben Dias as they look to shore up their defence.

Perhaps now is not the time to lose any more manpower at the back, and travelling back to his homeland to join the Spanish national team amid deadline day interest from Barcelona, City are expected to reject attempts by Barcelona to take Eric Garcia back to Catalonia.

According to Manchester Evening News time is running out for Ronald Koeman's side to raise their offer to sign the centre-back for this season.

If no agreement is reached, Garcia will remain at City until his contract expires at the end of the season, with the player informing the club he doesn't want to extend that deal.

Chelsea's decision over Antonio Rudiger opens up possibilities

Chelsea are hoping to be title contenders after spending over £200million on new recruits this summer.

Hakim Ziyech, Timo Werner, Kai Havertz and Ben Chilwell have all arrived at Stamford Bridge, but their summer spending may not yet be over.

Boss Frank Lampard had been set to launch a deadline-day bid for West Ham star Declan Rice, but he needs to raise funds first.

He could do so by offloading Marcos Alonso to Inter Milan, but no firm offer has yet been made. Antonio Rudiger had also been linked with a move away from Stamford Bridge, with even Tottenham Hotspur tipped as suitors to the German.

The idea of selling the centre-back to a potentially potent rival has been dismissed however, as reported by football.london, with Rudiger now expected to stay and fight for his place, which means that another defender could potentially leave the Blues.

Everton had been linked with Chelsea youngster Fikayo Tomori in a loan deal similar to the one that saw Kurt Zouma move to Goodison Park before becoming a first team player under Lampard.

But Carlo Ancelotti's move for Ben Godfrey would appear to negate the need for extra cover. A move elsewhere for Tomori, though, cannot be ruled out yet.

Could the academy product find himself lining up against Liverpool for another side this term? We will soon see.
