Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg is set to become the first of Jose Mourinho's summer additions at Tottenham.
Undergoing his medical at the club on Monday, the Dane is expected to pen a long-term deal in north London after excelling at Southampton over the past four years.
Certainly a player who appeals to Mourinho given his leadership skills. the 25-year-old will also help the Lilywhites solve the problematic anchor role in midfield.
With Mousa Dembele and Victory Wanyama now playing elsewhere and Eric Dier in defence, Harry Winks has been the one to play slightly deeper than usual due to a lack of options there.
As Hojbjerg has the necessary qualities to play as a holding midfielder, Mourinho may have found his perfect player to help his side reach the next level.
Spurs legend Gary Mabbutt is especially pleased by the addition of Hojbjerg and has outlined the three main qualities he will bring to the team next term.
"I think it's fantastic news," the club legend told Hayters. "Hojbjerg this season has really impressed me.
"Looking at him he's comfortable on the ball, his range of passing is excellent and he doesn't mind getting stuck in as well.
"If he can bring to Spurs what his Danish counterpart Christian Eriksen brought to us, they will be more than happy.
Given Spurs' struggles to find the ideal man to replace Mousa Dembele since his January 2019 switch to the Chinese Super League, Hojbjerg could finally be the one to do just that.
"They're big boots to fill and they've been looking around," he added on Spurs finally addressing their Dembele issue. "A number of people on the list have been looked at, but Hojbjerg is the one who has come through and hopefully it will all be secured."
