The three players who could still leave Chelsea before the European transfer deadline

It was a frustrating summer transfer window for Chelsea and Frank Lampard.

A ban meant the club were unable to register any players, therefore the new Blues head coach has placed his faith in youth for the 2019/2020 season.

That plan did backfire on Sunday afternoon at Old Trafford as the west London outfit were thumped 4-0 by Manchester United on the opening weekend of the new Premier League season.

That result prompted a warning from Lampard to the younger players in his squad.

"There’s energy in the team and two Chelsea lads starting who have come through the academy," he told reporters.

"But these aren’t gifts - they need to show they belong."

With that said, it's unlikely that Tammy Abraham or Mason Mount will be sold or loaned out this month as they'll likely be given more time to show they belong.

However, there could be some more exits from Stamford Bridge in the coming weeks.

Whilst the transfer window for Premier League clubs is closed in terms of incomings, they can still sell to clubs across Europe as the window in some countries remains open until early next month.

Lampard: 'A harsh lesson for my young team today'

Below, football.london takes a look at the players who could still leave Chelsea this summer.

Michy Batshuayi

This one is certainly more of a potential exit as the Belgian striker, who spent last season on loan at both Valencia and Crystal Palace, has already made a decision about his future.

As revealed by football.london last week, Batshuayi wants to stay and fight for his place under Lampard amid links with a return to Selhurst Park and going back to France to join AS Monaco.

Judging by Lampard's squad selection at Old Trafford, it would appear that Abraham is his first-choice striker and Olivier Giroud is the understudy.

This leaves Batshuayi facing the prospect of being the third-choice striking option which doesn't do his chances of featuring in Belgium's Euro 2020 squad any good.

But unless there's an offer he simply can't refuse, he seems set to remain in west London.

Tiemoue Bakayoko

The Frenchman struggled in his debut season at Chelsea and was then loaned out to AC Milan last season where talk of a permanent move went quiet following the Serie A outfit's failure to qualify for the Champions League.

Bakayoko even said earlier in the summer that his future was unclear.

But with central midfield a position of strength for Lampard at the moment, football.london understands Bakayoko is free to leave and is expected to move on very soon.

Linked with a move to Turkey, it's possible that Bakayoko joins Galatasaray either permanently or on loan.

Davide Zappacosta

Much like Bakayoko, football.london understands Zappacosta is expected to leave very soon as the club won't stand in his way of a move,

This is mainly down to the fact that Reece James is regarded as the back-up right-back option to Cesar Azpilicueta this season.

Zappacosta has been linked with a return to Italy and it's possible that he gets his career back on track in his home country.

Furthermore, he's in danger of being cut from Frank Lampard's Premier League squad.

Two other players who would probably be in contention to leave before the European transfer deadline in other circumstances are Marco van Ginkel and Jamal Blackman.

However, both players are currently sidelined through injury so it might be January when they get a move.
