The three players Manchester United are favourites to sign during January transfer window

Manchester United are ahead of any other team in the betting to sign Emre Can, James Maddison and Nicolo Zaniolo during the January transfer window.

The window opened on New Year's Day and United have not made any additions to their squad as of yet.

United are short of top-quality central midfielders and that problem has been magnified by injuries to Paul Pogba and Scott McTominay.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is open to the possibility of United strengthening this month but said that will only happen if targets become available.

“We’re still looking and as I’ve said so many times we have our targets if they become available and if it’s something we want to do," Solskjaer said last week. “If the right ones aren’t there, then they aren’t.”

United are shorter odds than any other team with Sky Bet to land Juventus midfielder Can, with the popular bookmaker pricing the Reds up at 3/1 to do a deal for the former Liverpool man. Borussia Dortmund are second favourites at 7/2.

With regards to Maddison, United are a 4/1 shot to get a deal over the line this month, with Chelsea second favourites at 10/1. The MEN understands Maddison is a priority summer target but United acknowledge he is unattainable mid-season.

Zaniolo, a 20-year-old attacking midfielder for Roma, can be backed at 5/1 to join United during the January window. It is a 6/1 shot that he ends up at Spurs.

United sold Marouane Fellaini to Chinese outfit Shandong Luneng and fellow midfielder Ander Herrera left for Paris Saint-Germain on a free transfer in the summer. United have failed to recruit a midfielder to replace either Fellaini or Herrera.
