The three key Leeds United selection decisions Marcelo Bielsa must consider for Charlton Athletic

While Leeds United sit at the top of the Championship table, most fans will agree that Marcelo Bielsa's side have not quite hit their stride.

Last weekend's 1-1 draw against Derby County brought about two key issues that seem to be reoccurring this term - a failure to convert chances and the dropping of points at home.

Saturday sees Leeds head back on the road for a reunion with Lee Bowyer at Charlton as they look to maintain their perfect away record, so while the Elland Road issue can be parked for a few days, a number of selection issues will be bought into focus ahead of the trip to The Valley.

While we know that Bielsa is loath to change his side, there is a growing feeling among the fan base that the Whites head coach needs to shuffle his pack. Here's a look at three key areas.

Does Luke Ayling come back in?

After turning out twice for the under-23s last week, including a 72 minute appearance at Hull on Friday, Luke Ayling looks to be nearing full fitness and ready for first-team action.

The former Bristol City man is a firm favourite of Bielsa, turning out whenever he was fit last season where he was a reliable, consistent and versatile performer - just what Bielsa looks for in a player.

Six weeks ago, you'd imagine that Ayling would be parachuted straight back into the starting XI, but Stuart Dallas has excelled at right-back in Ayling's absence so far this term.

The Northern Irishman has been one of Leeds' best performers this season, offering a constant attacking threat down the right, while being part of a back-four that have conceded just four goals in eight games this term.

So will Bielsa's desire to keep a settled side trump his admiration of Ayling? Quite possibly, although as you can by our scouting analytics team, the statistics point to Ayling being the better option.

Jack Harrison out of the firing line?

After a promising start to the season, Jack Harrison has put in a couple of below-par performances on the left.

The Man City loanee was hooked at half-time against Barnsley a fortnight ago and many were expecting the same at the interval against Derby. He would battle on until the 58th minute before being replaced, when Helder Costa was brought on in his place.

Given that Leeds have such a strong option on the bench, it seems like a matter of when not if Costa comes into the side and is given a chance to show what he can do from the start.

On the other flank Pablo Hernandez has also had a couple of quiet games, but the Spaniard always has something special in his locker - exhibit A being the two world class passes he produced  to inspire goals in an otherwise slow personal showing at Stoke City.

Harrison is therefore the more vulnerable of Bielsa's two widemen and given that Leeds have more depth here than anywhere else on the pitch, failing to make a change at this juncture would raise questions.

What to do up front

And onto the biggest talking point among Leeds fans at the moment.

For the second straight week, Patrick Bamford put in a very good all-round performance but was unable to convert his chances, drawing a blank before Eddie Nketiah's inevitable arrival on the pitch.

Relegating Bamford to the bench would see Leeds lose the battling, hard-working performances that he has been able to produce this season, but would this be a price worth paying?

What Bamford is not doing is taking his chances and in Nketiah, Leeds have a striker who has done exactly that.

Bielsa has indicated that playing them both together would take away some of the creative play behind the frontline, but is just waiting for Leeds' xG stats to revert to the mean and hoping lady luck comes to the party enough? Or is it time to see what a 90-minute Eddie Nketiah performance in the Championship would bring?
