The three Chelsea players Thomas Tuchel could be without for Tottenham Carabao Cup clash

A Kai Havertz strike and a Ben Davies own goal handed Chelsea a significant advantage over Spurs in the semi-final of the Carabao Cup.

Antonio Conte is looking to win the Lilywhites their first trophy since 2008, when they beat Chelsea to win the same tournament, but they may need a good chunk of luck to turn this around.

The Italian will have to make do without the services of Heung-Min Son, however, with the Korean set to be sidelined until after the international break at the earliest.

"The update on Sonny is that for sure we have to wait until after the international break," Conte told his pre-match press conference.

"It was a muscular problem and I repeat it was strange because he came off during the game with no problem.

"Then the day after he felt a bit of pain and he was injured. It’s a pity because you know very well the importance of this player for us."

However, Thomas Tuchel is not short of injury issues of his own.

They may have a two-goal lead, but Chelsea will have to make do without the services of three first-team players, potentially offering Spurs a route back into the tie.

Reece James will miss the clash at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, an absence that will significantly blunt the Blues attack.

The right wing-back limped from the field against Brighton and is now expected to miss two months of football with a torn hamstring. Prior to the blow, he had four goals and five assists in the top-flight.

On the other side, Ben Chilwell will also be absent.

The former Leicester City man played just six Premier League games before rupturing his cruciate ligament against Juventus in the Champions League.

Like James, Chilwell had become a huge attacking threat for the Blues, scoring three goals and assisting one more in those matches.

The third absentee completes a hat-trick of defensive blows, with Trevoh Chalobah also likely to miss out.

He was risked against Liverpool at the turn of the year but was withdrawn after 70 minutes, so is more likely than not to miss out again.

However, Tuchel has at least received a boost in the form of N'Golo Kante and Thiago Silva recovering from positive Covid-19 tests.

"We have the same guys as we have in the cup game," Tuchel told his pre-match press conference on Tuesday.

"No new injuries which is good for us, then we have to wait on the last minute decisions for Thiago Silva and N'Golo Kante."
