The three Indian restaurants in Bristol in the running to be crowned the UK's best

Fans of Indian food are spoiled for choice in Bristol with fantastic options all over the city.

A number of restaurants scoop awards on a regular basis, including the Urban Tandoor and Urban Kohinoor, which are both run by the same team.

And this weekend they are once again in the running to make Bristol proud, after being named in the shortlist for the Asian Restaurant Awards 2019.

In recent years the Tandoor has been named as the Best Asian Healthy Eating Restaurant and Best Asian Restaurant in the South West while its sister site has scooped Best Newcomer and its head chef Dhanasekaran Durai has officially been named one of the best in the industry.

But they are not Bristol's only Indian restaurants in with a chance of walking away victorious this weekend, as Rajastan Royal has also made the list.

The Emersons Green takeaway earns consistently impressive reviews from customers for its delicious curries, with a tantalising range of both traditional and slightly more left-field choices on offer.

Over 100,000 public votes determined the shortlist of the nation’s favourite Bangladeshi, Burmese, Chinese, Filipino, Indian, Indonesian, Japanese, Korean, Malaysian, Middle Eastern, Pakistani, Singaporean, Sri Lankan, Thai, and Vietnamese restaurants and takeaways.

Winners will be revealed at a glittering awards ceremony at the Manchester Hilton on Sunday (June 23), with over 500 leading restaurateurs, chefs, food writers and VIP guests expected to attend.

The evening will be hosted by BBC TV news anchor Samantha Simmonds and supported by the Manchester-based British-Asian actor and comedian Mani Liaqat.

The awards are organised by the Asian Catering Federation (ACF) which represents the nation’s 30,000 Asian and Oriental restaurants.

ACF Chairman Yawar Khan said: "The Asian Restaurant Awards 2019 promises to be an unforgettable night, where we will be recognising the excellence of Asian and Oriental restaurants across the UK.

"We will be celebrating the many different cultures and cuisines that contribute so much to the British economy."
