The Third Day: Everything you need to know about psychological thriller starring Jude Law and Naomie Harris

Jude Law and Naomie Harris are leading the cast of Sky’s groundbreaking new psychological thriller The Third Day.

The series is unique in that, as well as pre-recorded, scripted episodes, it includes a live broadcast of a theatrical event.

Here’s everything you need to know about the new show, from what it’s about to who’s in the cast, and when it arrives on screens.

What is The Third Day about and who stars in it?

The Third Day, created by Utopia screenwriter Dennis Kelly and Punchdrunk founder Felix Barrett, is set on a mysterious British island where all is not as it seems.

Sky has kept the details of the series very much under wraps, but here’s what we could deduce from the cryptic synopsis…

It is split into three parts, with the first chapter, "Summer", starring Jude Law as Sam, a man who is drawn to the island. He finds himself unable to leave the idyllic world he has discovered, and while there, he grapples with his traumatic past.

Following "Summer", there will be a live theatrical event – "Autumn" – which you can find out more about below.

Then, Naomie Harris will star in "Winter" as Helen, a “headstrong outsider” who is also drawn to the island to seek answers – about what exactly, though, it is not yet clear.

The series also stars Emily Watson and Paddy Considine.

What is the live event?

"Autumn" is a live theatrical event that will be broadcast live on Sky Arts and online on 3 October.

Starring Law, it will allow viewers to follow the events of a single day in real time, with Sky teasing it will “blur and distort the lines between what’s real and what’s not”.

It is created by theatrical innovators Punchdrunk.

When is the release date?

The six-part series will launch on 15 September on Sky Atlantic and NOW TV. It will be shown in the US on HBO.
