The things people keep getting wrong in Swansea when it comes to recycling paper

Remember the days when we used to dump all of our rubbish together in one bin?

Things have been different for a while now as we all try to do our bit for the environment.

But some people in Swansea are still not getting it right.

Swansea Council's recycling team have said that there are still some items in the green bags which they cannot accept.

The team have stressed that these items in particular must be placed in black bags only for kerbside collection.

The items include:

  • Cartons
  • Paper cups
  • Tissues
  • Wallpaper
  • Wrapping paper

Food and drink cartons and paper cups can also be recycled in the banks at all recycling centres.

Since February, 2019,  Swansea Council  has enforced stricter regulations with regard to what is allowed in which bags.

This is why you should never crush your cans before recycling them:

Checks by bin collectors have been ongoing to ensure materials such as glass, plastic and metal tins are not put in black bags.

On pink bag collection days, checks have been carried out to ensure there are no ‘soft’ plastics present. These can include plastic wrapping and cellophane tops to microwaveable meals.

Ignoring these rules could land you with a fine or your rubbish not being collected.
