The Thierry Henry, Dennis Bergkamp and Arsenal mistake Paul Ince made amid statue debate

Former Liverpool forward Paul Ince has been called out by fans after claiming that Thierry Henry or Dennis Bergkamp don’t have a statue outside of the Emirates Stadium.

The statement came during a debate over Manchester City’s announcement that they are to build a statue of long-serving midfielder David Silva after he left the club this summer.

The Spaniard was out of contract at the Etihad Stadium after spending 10-years at the club.

The 34-year-old signed for Real Sociedad this week, with City announcing the plans just a day later.

When asked for his opinion on the decision, Ince shared his view that it was a bit too much.

“When you look at the Henrys, the Bergkamps, [silva is] up there,” he said.

“But I don’t see a statue of Henry or Bergkamp outside Arsenal.”

It didn’t take fans long to point out the mistake that the former player had made.

Both players have had lasting monuments outside of Arsenal’s home for a number of years, with Henry’s famous knee slide celebration in statue form since 2011.

Another statue of Bergkamp controlling the ball in midair was unveiled just three years later in 2014.

Both players wrote themselves into Arsenal history, playing a combined total of 777 games for the club.

Both players were big parts of the invincibles squad of 2003/04, as Arsenal went the whole league season unbeaten on their way to the Premier League title.
