The text that Jose Mourinho received from Man United and Ed Woodward following Spurs appointment

New Tottenham Hotspur head coach Jose Mourinho has revealed that he received a text from former boss Ed Woodward wishing him good luck in his new role at Spurs.

The former Manchester United boss has signed a three-year deal at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, replacing the outgoing Mauricio Pochettino in the hot seat.

Mourinho takes charge of his first game against West Ham United on Saturday, and the new man in charge met the media for the first time ahead of the match.

Following his appointment, Mourinho has talked about the reaction to his appointment.

"I received messages from everybody, everywhere [from my former clubs]," Mourinho told Sky Sports.

"Maybe I get the opportunity to apologise for not answering 500 of them that I couldn’t answer. I have 700 but only had time to answer 200."

The Portuguese had been out of work since leaving Manchester United in December 2018, and the head coach spoke of four messages in particular.

"But it was curious to see, from my last club, so many people showing me that respect, empathy and feeling. It was nice," he added.

"All of them were special. The first one was from [United managing director] Richard Arnold. The third, fourth or fifth was Ed Woodward. And they were my bosses.

"I think we (Daniel Levy) will get on well. He explained to me the vision for the club and I embraced that.

"It was one of the most important reasons I accepted. So when I did that, it’s a very good start."
