The text from Cardiff City owner Vincent Tan congratulating Ole Gunnar Solskjaer on Manchester United appointment

Cardiff City owner Vincent Tan texted his congratulations to Ole Gunnar Gunnar Solskjaer on his appointment as Manchester United manager via a national radio station.

The contents of the message have been revealed by talkSPORT , with Tan — who appointed and then sacked Solskjaer as Cardiff boss — clearly still full of fondness for the Norweigan.

Presenter Jim White received the message from the Malaysian, who installed Solskjaer as Bluebirds boss in January 2014.

Although the Manchester United legend was unable to keep Cardiff in the Premier League and isn't fondly remembered by the Bluebirds' fanbase, Tan holds him in high regard to this day.

Tan and Cardiff chairman Mehmet Dalman were always big supporters of Solskjaer and that still remains to this day.

The text read: "I want it known I’m very pleased to congratulate Ole for his much-deserved confirmation as manager of Manchester United, a job coveted by many.

"Ole has brought success and stability to the United team in his short stint.

"I wish Ole great success, I’m delighted for him.

"Warmest regards, Vincent."

Solskjaer was initially appointed as caretaker United boss, leaving his job at Molde to return to his former club.

He has won 14, drawn two and lost just three of his games in charge at Old Trafford, earning the job full time on a three-year contract.

“From the first day I arrived, I felt at home at this special club,” said Solskjær.

“It was an honour to be a Manchester United player, and then to start my coaching career here. The last few months have been a fantastic experience and I want to thank all of the coaches, players and staff for the work we’ve done so far.
