The Texans trade for Browns running back Duke Johnson

The second running back spot behind Lamar Miller may not be as wide open as originally thought.

The Cleveland Browns announced Thursday morning they have agreed to trade running back Duke Johnson to the Houston Texans for an undisclosed 2020 NFL draft pick.

In Johnson’s four seasons with the Browns, the former 2015 third-round pick tallied 299 carries for 1,286 yards and five touchdowns while hauling in 235 catches for 2,170 receiving yards and nine touchdowns.

Johnson wanted out of Cleveland in the offseason, and now, he has his wish. The Texans also have a need at running back after having waived former 2017 third-round pick D’Onta Foreman, who is now with the Indianapolis Colts.

Playing behind Foreman, the presumptive No. 2 on the depth chart, is Buddy Howell, Taiwan Jones, Josh Ferguson, Karan Higdon, and Damarea Crockett. Now, the same running backs will be in the hunt again as a new challenger enters the fold in Johnson.
