The Texans are keeping an eye on a third quarterback

The Houston Texans currently have two quarterbacks on the active roster in Deshaun Watson and A.J. McCarron, but the club is not ruling out adding a third.

Houston originally had Alex McGough as their third quarterback, but the team cut him a few days before the mandatory cut down to 53 men on Saturday.

Coach and general manager Bill O’Brien acknowledged the club is evaluating the third quarterback spot and could bring in someone, maybe even McGough.

“We certainly are looking at the quarterback market and what’s out there,” O’Brien said. “Alex is definitely on that list. We’ve had a great experience with Alex. Really hardworking guy. So, we’ll see what happens here after the game.”

The Texans don’t seem too optimistic about getting anyone ready to go for the Kansas City Chiefs game Thursday night, only because of how quickly game night is approaching.

“Relative to having to get ready for a game in such a short period of time, the roster rules are the same for the ones that open up on Sunday and Monday as they are for us, the two teams that open up on Thursday,” said O’Brien. “That’s a conversation for another time. But that makes it a little difficult to rush in. You don’t want to rush into any decisions.”
