A police force has released shocking footage of an 11-year-old girl who was sent flying off a car bonnet while crossing the road.
Devon and Cornwall Police released a video of the horrifying crash to show why education around road safety is vital.
The video warns: "The following clip shows a road traffic collision between an 11-year-old pedestrian and a car. You may find the footage disturbing."
In the video, dated July 7, the young girl is seen sprinting into the road without looking both ways for traffic.
An approaching car attempts to swerve out of her way but she is hit, flying off the bonnet and into the road.
Incredibly, she then gets up, seemingly unharmed, and runs back to the pavement.
The video finishes with a warning to make sure children always look before crossing a road.
The girl sustained minor injuries in the crash, the force said, and the driver of the car was found not to be at fault.
On Facebook, people were quick to comment on how lucky the girl had been.
"Wow, she was hit by the car and still got up and ran back to the pavement," one commenter said.
"That must have been truly terrifying for the driver and girl."
Another said: "Difficult to watch but so important to share.
"If sharing this teaches one more child to follow the green cross code and it saves a life, it will be worth it."
Devon and Cornwall Police said that around 120 child pedestrians are involved in collisions in the region each year.
