The teacher gift idea that parents are loving this Christmas - and it only costs £1!

Christmas is an expensive time of year, there's no doubt about that.

It's a time when parents feel the pinch more than most.

So when it comes to buying thank you gifts for teachers, it can sometimes be a struggle for cash-strapped families during the festive period.

But this idea, shared by parents on social media, is proving popular with families, reports the Manchester Evening News .

It means you can get each teacher or other school staff a gift for as little as £1.

One mum shared the idea on a bargains Facebook page earlier this week and her post has amassed 10k likes in just two days.

In it, she shared a photo of the gifts her daughter had done for her teachers, involving just bars of chocolate and good old paper and felt tip pens - and a few stickers she already had.

She said: "I got two bars of chocolate, wrapped them and let my daughter decorate them for her two teachers for Christmas. Costed about £1 for chocolate as had everything else. I know it's not the best gift but it's the thought."

And she's not the only one getting in on the idea.

Claire Woollands followed suit with even simpler designs created by her nine-year-old daughter Molly Village.

Sharing a photo of the bars, decorated with a snowman design, she said: "Just like what was posted yesterday but my daughter does a much simpler design but looks very effective.

"£1 bar of Galaxy wrapped in white paper and decorated with felt pens for her teachers and friends."

Parents have been loving the idea, with hundreds of them praising the 'brilliant idea'.

Many teachers commented too, saying they appreciate the handmade presents more than others.

One said: "I work in early years and this type of present is the best. I would be delighted to receive this from one of my wee children."

Another added: "Awww they are lovely - and as a teacher myself love the thought, time and care gone into making them special."
