Channel 5's The Teacher ending leaves viewers fuming for 'wasting four hours' of their lives

*THIS ARTICLE CONTAINS SPOILERS*

The Teacher left many Channel 5 viewers moaning that they'd 'wasted four hours' of their lives after an ending that came under fire from many who watched it.

Following weeks of preview adverts and coverage online and in newspapers, the four part drama finally launched on Monday night, with those who watched its opening episode full of theories and predictions on how things would pan out from the get-go.

At the centre of the action was Sheridan Smith as Jenna Garvey, a teacher who works hard but plays harder and saw her love for a night out landing her in perilously hot water, when she was accused of having sex with underage pupil Kyle.

Not wanting either herself or Kyle to face an interrogation in court, Jenna pleaded guilty, despite not remembering anything about the evening in question when she bumped into the teenager in a local club on a work night out in celebration on her new promotion.

The Teacher had many twists and turns as viewers turned the spotlight of suspicion on a whole host of characters as to who tried to bring Jenna down, including her ex, her bitter colleague Nina and even closest work mate Jack, played by Kelvin Fletcher.

Everything changed at the end of episode three of The Teacher with the appearance of 'Brian' the new man in Jenna's colleague Pauline's life, who was actually Arnold Cleary, a teacher Jenna worked with at a different school with a serious grudge to bear.

After searching online and finding old newspaper articles, Jenna discovered that former colleague, Newcastle based teacher Arnold had been arrested for having a relationship with one of his pupils, something she reported 15 years ago.

Arnold had come back into Jenna's life with the intent in destroying her and, posing as Kyle's tutor, got him to do his bidding.

When and Jenna and Arnold finally came face to face, he tried to convince Jenna she was as bad as him, before he stepped out in front of a speeding car to end his own life as she looked on in horror.

The final part ended with Jenna chatting to Kyle, with him revealing he'd got a level 9 in English and her brushing his hand before walking away.

Viewers weren't impressed with The Teacher's ending (Twitter)

While the closing minutes of The Teacher were rather dramatic, there were a lot of questions left unanswered and plenty of loose ends not tied up involving key characters like Nina, Jack and Jenna's father.

Viewers convinced that Kyle's mum was actually Arnold's daughter were also left disappointed they weren't proved right, while others just described the conclusion as utter rubbish.

One took to Twitter to fume: "Well I just wasted 4 hours of my life watching The Teacher. #channel5 #theteacher Worse ending since game of thrones."

Equally disappointed and keen to air their frustrations, another reacted: "I feel so disappointed. I've loved The Teacher all week.... all week!!!! It's been gripping, it's been bloody brilliant.... but that ending.......bloody hell. What rubbish," with a third posting: "Have I seriously just wasted 4 nights of my life for that awful ending of The Teacher."
