Besides politics, one thing that Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez excels at is clapbacks. While the Republicans have never let an opportunity to insult the Democrats go to waste, AOC has never let one go to humble them back either.
Recently, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez made waves with her comments directed at White House Deputy Chief of Staff Stephen Miller. In an Instagram live, she referred to him as a “clown” and poked fun at him for his short stature of 4 feet 10 inches. Calling her move an effort to hold MAGA men like him responsible for their “insecure masculinity”, AOC remarked that Miller’s height is the cause of all his distress, which he is taking out on innocent people. Therefore, she believes these people should hold him accountable and use the language people like him use to call him out.
Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez is snapping back at a Republican sympathiser yet again, this time, conservative political activist Riley Gaines. On October 27, Gaines shared a picture on X of AOC, Zohran Mamdani, and Bernie Sanders from the Forest Hill Stadium, where they had congregated for the “New York is Not for Sale” and captioned it: “We’re being destroyed from within.” AOC, who was quick to come across the post, did not remain quiet and clapped back at her with strong words of criticism. Sharing Gaines’ post, AOC wrote:
“Maybe if you channeled all this anger into swimming faster you wouldn’t have come in fifth.”
For the unfamiliar, Riley Gaines is a former swimmer who represented the University of Kentucky in the 200-yard freestyle at the NCAA championship held in March 2022 and placed fifth.
Many who witnessed AOC fire back at Riley Gaines applauded her. One person on X wrote:
“The tea has been clocked.”
Another person wrote:
“Never seen a professional swimmer get drowned by a member of congress.”
Several others joined in criticising Gaines while expressing support for AOC. Gaines was quite upset by AOC’s comments and appeared on Fox News later, where she stated that she would like to challenge AOC to a debate. In response, AOC shared a video of Gaines making this statement on Fox News, captioning it: “And I would like to challenge this person to get a real job,” which drew in laughter from many people.
