There's a world of choice when it comes to eating out in Newport.

But before you step inside any establishment, it's normally a good idea to check out their hygiene rating.
The food hygiene rating, awarded by the Food Standards Agency (FSA), measures the cleanliness of food establishments via visits from an inspector from the council.
According to the FSA website, ratings are given based on the following at the time of inspection:
- handling of food
- how food is stored
- how food is prepared
- cleanliness of facilities
- how food safety is managed
Food hygiene ratings are given between zero and five, with five indicating 'very good' hygiene standards and zero indicating 'urgent improvement is required'.
