The Swansea City vs Hull City score predicted - using FIFA 19

Swansea City kick off the new Championship season at home to Hull City.

It barely seems like yesterday that the 2018-19 campaign ended with a 2-2 draw at Ewood Park.

Fast forward a few months and Swansea have a new manager, and despite the departures of Daniel James and Oli McBurnie there is a feelgood factor around the Liberty.

As a bit of fun, we've looked at the opening-day fixture against the Tigers and given it a bit of a twist.

What will the Swans first XI look like?

And, what will the score be?

We used FIFA 19 to give us a unique prediction for this weekend's match.

Swansea City vs Hull City on FIFA 19:

To set up this simulation, we used kick-off mode but didn't select a team to control; we then selected the teams and watched the match play out by itself, to give us a unique prediction.

The AI difficulty was set to world class, with the line-up updated with the latest injuries and suspensions. Obviously, as we're still using FIFA 19 for the time being, the kits aren't updated, so please use your imagination.

We predict that Swansea will set up in a 4-3-3 formation, with the line-up as follows: Mulder; Bidwell, Rodon, van der Hoorn, Roberts; Grimes, Byers, Celina; Dyer, McKay, Borja Baston.

(EA SPORTS FIFA)

We predict that Hull City also set up in a 4-3-3 formation, with their line-up as follows; Long; Lichaj, Burke, De Wijs, Kingsley; Batty, Henriksen, Irvine; Bowen, Dicko, Grosicki.

(EA SPORTS FIFA)

The home side started the game slightly better, having an early spell of possession. Forgotten man Borja had the first real chance of the game, drawing a magnificent save from Long to deny the Spaniard from long-range in the 8th minute.

However, the longer the game wore on, the more Hull become the side in the ascendancy.

The away side's first chance was a very good one indeed, with the ball falling to Jarrod Bowen just inside the area with 24 minutes gone, but he could only curl his shot wide of the post. It was a real chance for someone with Bowen's ability.

In the second half, Hull continued to miss chances, with both Jackson Irvine and Bowen guilty of spurning good opportunties.

For Swansea, they were having no problems getting possession of the ball, it was their penetration that was letting them down.

Bersant Celina was seeing a lot of the ball, and having a good game, but his team-mates just didn't seem to be on the same wavelength.

In the 68th minute, the deadlock was finally broken, with Nouha Dicko putting the away side in front.

After his initial effort was saved by Mulder, the ball fell back to Dicko and he hit a volley that was slightly mis-timed, but it hit the ground and went over the goalkeeper, catching him by surprise.

Hull could have doubled their lead late on through Dicko again, but his shot curled just wide of the post from just outside the area.

And, that's how it finished.

A poor performance overall from Swansea, in a match where they dominated possession, but just couldn't create any clear-cut chances for Borja Baston.

Full-time score: Swansea City 0-1 Hull City

Here are the full-time match stats.

(EA SPORTS FIFA)

Swansea's best player was Celina, who looked the most likely to make something happen.

(EA SPORTS FIFA)

But, Nathan Dyer was terrible, consistently losing the ball and failing to complete a single cross.

(EA SPORTS FIFA)

FIFA 19 predicts that it will be a relatively tight game on Saturday, but Swansea will eventually lose on the opening day by a single goal.

Let's hope this simulation has got it all wrong!
