The Swansea City transfer headlines as rivals Celtic given huge target boost, Brighton star wanted and QPR join Max Watters race

These are the latest Swansea City transfer headlines on Tuesday, January 5.

Viktor Gyökeres wanted by Malmo

Swansea City loan man Viktor Gyökeres is wanted by Swedish side Malmo.

Gyökeres arrived on loan from Brighton in the summer in the hope that he would spearhead Swansea's attack in the Championship.

It hasn't played out like that, with the Swede having to settle for a place amongst the substitutes in the main.

Steve Cooper wants to boost his striking options this month, and Gyökeres could well be allowed to return to the south coast.

The Athletic report that that Malmo are keen on him.

Celtic given Randall transfer boost

Scottish giants Celtic's pursuit of reported Swansea target Joel Randall have been given a considerable boost with news that struggling Neil Lennon will be backed in the transfer market.

Celtic are currently 19 points behind Steven Gerrard's Rangers side in the SPL, with speculation rife that Lennon could be axed. But reports from north of the border state he has been given a vote of confidence and funds will be available this month.

The Hoops and Swansea are set to go head to head in their chase for Exeter starlet Randall, who has a reported price tag of £1.5million.

That would put the Parkhead club firmly in the boxseat to seal the winger's signature.

QPR and Euro clubs in for Watters

Max Watters is a wanted man, with QPR joining Swansea and a host of clubs on the continent monitoring his situation.

Swansea hold interest in the Crawley Town striker, but a £1million asking fee is putting them off.

Cooper's transfer plans were blown apart on Monday evening with news that Southampton target Michael Obafemi had sustained an injury in training.

“The price has got to be right and the lad’s got to be happy,” said Crawley's technical director Erdem Konyar. “Securing him on a longer-term deal is also on the cards but if a club comes in and wants to pay him £10,000 a week, I’m not going to be able to match that. We have to do what is in the club’s best interests. If we get an offer we can’t refuse, we’ll have to look at it.”

The Athletic report that sides in Germany, Belgium and France are keen on Watters too.

Swans recall Cooper

Meanwhile Swansea have recalled Brandon Cooper from his loan stint at Newport County.

The 20-year-old centre-back has been a hit at Rodney Parade, making 25 appearances in all competitions.

He was also named the EFL's Young Player of the Month for October, and will return to the Liberty following recent injuries to fellow defenders Ryan Bennett, Kyle Naughton and Joel Latibeaudiere.

Cooper recently signed a new deal in SA1, extending his time with the club through to the summer of 2023.

Former Swan King makes move

Andy King, a former Swansea loan player, has signed for Belgian outfit Oud-Heverlee Leuven.

The outfit are owned by King Power - the same company who oversee Leicester City, King's old club.

The Wales international spent the first half of last season at Rangers, having been loaned out by the Foxes.

King spent six months at the Liberty during their relegation season.
