The Swansea City player ratings as midfield duo run the show as Borja slowly improves in Hull City win

The Swansea City player ratings from the 2-1 win over Hull City at the Liberty Stadium.

Freddie Woodman 7

Little he could do about Hull's opener on what was his Swansea debut. Was relatively untroubled otherwise and looked comfortable with hands and feet until the final stages where he showed a few nerves. Solid debut.

Connor Roberts 7

Linked up well with Nathan Dyer on a few occasions, but final ball was lacking at times. So much energy in the second half and helped Swansea stretch the visitors.

Mike van der Hoorn 7

Generally solid at the back and gave the Swans some much-needed stability and presence in the air. Reacted well to get his goal and give Swansea the lead.

Joe Rodon 7

Won plenty of aerial duels to ease the pressure on goalkeeper Woodman. Slick with the ball at his feet too. Encouraging display.

Jake Bidwell 6

A few decent crosses, but gave the ball away on numerous occasions which often disrupted his side's attempts to get forward. Will hopefully settle in with game-time. Booked.

Jay Fulton 8

Had a rasping volley well saved early on. Won plenty of 50:50s to limit the threat of the Tigers. A really impressive display.

Matt Grimes 8 - Star Man

On his first appearance since being made captain, Grimes kept Swansea ticking as always and switched play nicely on a few occasions, although he was fortunate not to be punished by Jarrod Bowen after misplacing a pass just before the break. Phenomenal in the second half with his range of passing and build-up play.

Nathan Dyer 6

Saw a fair amount of the ball on the right wing, but final ball was lacking so often. Better in the second half and could have made it 3-1 after getting an assist. Subbed and booked at the death.

George Byers 7

Broke well when Swansea looked to get back on terms but couldn't make the telling contribution. Solid rather than spectacular. Subbed in the second half.

Bersant Celina 7

Deployed out on the left, the Kosovan showed flashes of what he can do, although his impact was severely restricted in the opening half and was cautioned early on. Much improved after the restart and caused the Tigers plenty of problems.

Borja Baston 7

Making his first league start for the Swans since December 2016, the Spaniard desperately struggled in the first half and was unable to hold up the ball. But got his first Swansea goal in 1,022 days just after the restart. Much improved in the second half.

SUBS

Kristoffer Peterson (for Byers) - Looked really encouraging with the ball at his feet. 7

Kyle Naughton (for Dyer) - No time to make an impact. N/A
