The Swansea City evening transfer headlines as Charlton left 'gutted' by deal, a 'lasting relationship' with Chelsea mooted and Stoke City loan done

Wales international Jonny Williams says he was "gutted" to see Conor Gallagher leave Charlton.

The youngster has penned a loan deal with Swansea City until the end of the season, having spent the opening half of the campaign at The Valley.

Parent club Chelsea decided that Swansea would be a better fit for the teenager moving forward, much to the disappointment of Williams.

He told South London Press : “I’m gutted. Everyone knows how good a player he is and a lot of teams would miss him.

“It came as a bit of surprise when you saw how much he enjoyed playing for Charlton and being around this bunch of lads.

“It was probably the perfect dressing room for him to come into.

“He brought out the best in me. I sent him a message on Monday night saying ‘you’ve done so well – you walked through the door with no senior appearances and you are leaving us as a man’.

“It’s a credit to Bows (manager Lee Bowyer) for bringing him in and believing in him.

“I’ve had successful loans and not so successful loans. With the good ones you tend to look at the manager, because he has shown belief and given you game-time.

“I’ll miss him but it’s football. These things happen and you move on.”

Meanwhile, Swans starlet Liam Cullen is set to sign a new deal with the club.

Head coach Steve Cooper has been delighted with the youngster and now wants him to take the next step in his development.

"Liam is in our plans. He's a talented boy. I feel like he's spent too long in the under-23s. That's my feeling on him and on one or two others," said Cooper .

"We've quickly got to find a programme in men's football for him, whether it's with us or on loan.

"I'm only interested in his football development because he's a player I'd love to give an opportunity at some stage.

"He isn't far away from that, the way he's going. He's a really likeable lad as well with a very good personality and good confidence."

Elsewhere, The Athletic are reporting that Swansea and Chelsea are exploring the idea of a "lasting relationship" which could see the two clubs do business in the future.

They report: "Sources have told The Athletic that Chelsea’s academy staff are hoping to build a lasting relationship that could see Swansea City become the preferred loan destination for some of their brightest prospects in the years to come. It is likely that others will follow Gallagher, and defender Marc Guehi, in being farmed out from Cobham to the Liberty Stadium."

And finally, Ryan Woods has joined Millwall from Stoke City.

The former Swans target has signed on the dotted line at The New Den until the end of the season.
