The surprising Manchester United player named quickest of the season so far

Manchester United midfielder Fred has clocked the quickest running speed of any of the club's players this season so far.

Data revealed by Opta has measured the fastest pace by a United player in each of their 17 Premier League matches of the campaign.

And although familiar speed merchants Marcus Rashford and Daniel James dominate the chart, the 37.29 kilometres per hour Fred was clocked at during United's 1-1 draw with Everton last time out is the quickest of the season.

Otherwise, it's either James or Rashford who have been United's quickest player in every game, apart from the Everton encounter and the Manchester derby, when Jesse Lingard ran the quickest.

Earlier this season, it was revealed that Rashford was winning the pace race at Old Trafford, ahead of Welsh flier James.

But it would appear Fred now has them both in his slipstream.

Here are the updated stats, courtesy of Opta:

Chelsea = James (33.52)
Wolverhampton Wanderers = Rashford (33.33)
Crystal Palace = Rashford (36.32)
Southampton = James (34.24)
Leicester City = James (35.04)

Aston Villa = James (35.08)
