The surprising Manchester United move Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has made ahead of Arsenal clash

Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has named a surprise captain for the Red Devils' Carabao Cup tie against Rochdale.

In a team that sees nine changes from the weekend's loss against West Ham, United youngster Axel Tuanzebe has been named as captain for the game, despite more senior players including Paul Pogba, Phil Jones and Jesse Lingard starting the game.

The defender will be making just his 11th senior appearance vs Rochdale, and has played just one minute of Premier League football so far this season, coming on as a late substitute in the 1-0 win over Leicester City.

Midfielder Paul Pogba has regularly worn the captains' armband at Old Trafford, but has been overlooked on this occasion after his comeback from injury.

Following the game against Rochdale, Manchester United host Arsenal in the Premier League, in their last outing in the league Solkjaer's men received a lot of criticism for their performance against West Ham, in a game which they lost by two goals to nil.

The Norwegian could now turn to youth in order to try and bounce back, and his choice to give 21-year-old Tuanzebe the armband could be another indication that he is ready to go down that route.

Manchester United will be looking to close the gap on fourth place Arsenal when the Gunners' visit Old Trafford on Monday night.
