The surprising Brown Ideye numbers that would make Nottingham Forest transfer a gamble

The latest Nottingham Forest transfer rumour has seen the Reds linked with a move for ex-West Bromwich Albion striker Brown Ideye.

The former Albion forward is currently plying his trade with Greek club Aris, with his contract due to expire in the summer.

He also spent two seasons with Olympiacos between 2015-17, who are owned by Forest chief Evangelos Marinakis.

Reports in Greece claim the 31-year-old is keen to return to England when his deal runs out, with Forest “in the running” for his signature.

His time with West Brom saw him score just seven goals in 31 appearances, after the Baggies paid a club-record £10m for his services to lure him from Dynamo Kiev in 2014.

According to Transfermarkt, Ideye has accumulated the highest transfer fee for any Nigerian footballer in history.

The striker’s transfer history has seen him accumulate 43.18m euros (£39.6m), ahead of former Newcastle United frontman Obafemi Martins (42.35m euros), who is second in the list.

Ideye’s move to West Brom was the most expensive move, with the transfer from Olympiacos to Chinese club Tianjin Teda second.

The experienced striker has also had transfers to French club FC Sochaux and Swiss outfit Xamax, which have helped contribute to his accumulative transfer fee.

Ideye is also ahead of former Leicester City striker Ahmed Musa, Manchester United’s Odion Ighalo, Everton’s Alex Iwobi and former West Ham forward Emmanuel Emenike in the highest transfer fees accumulated by Nigerian footballers.
