The surprise TV show everybody is watching during lockdown

Patriotism and nostalgia may well be on the rise if official viewing figures released by Now TV are anything to go by.

Among TV shows people are binge-watching, classic British sitcom Dad's Army sits way out in the lead when it comes to a percentage increase with regard to number of streams.

Up 211% on pre-lockdown statistics, the nearest show to it - Only Fools and Horses - boasts a comparatively smaller increase of 87%

Other shows with a notable increase include Channel 4's Peep Show (up 38%), classic American dramas The Wire (up 33%) and The Sopranos (up 21%) as well as old family favourite The Simpsons (up 23%).

Now TV Managing Director Marina Storti said: "It's no surprise Brits are turning to their TV for comfort."

"When you can't see your friends and family," she continues, "an iconic character like Del Boy, Rodney or Captain Mainwaring are the next best thing to a familiar face and a little 'home comfort'."

Dad's Army was originally broadcast on the BBC between 1968 and 1977. There were a total of 80 episodes - three of which, in Series 2, are now classed as 'missing'.

Th shows you can see listed above are only a handful of the hundreds of box sets available through use of a Now TV Entertainment Pass.

All of Now TV's Passes - bar sports - can be accessed via a 7-day trial period. Click here to activate your your Now TV Pass.
