The surprise tactic Jose Mourinho can use as Tottenham tipped to end Liverpool's Anfield record

Liverpool have not lost a Premier League game at Anfield for almost four years.

That is quite the statistic.

The Reds were last beaten in the English top flight by Crystal Palace, on April 23, 2017.

It is a record that has stretched through 65 games and counting.

Some Liverpool supporters are worried, however, that old adversary Jose Mourinho could be the one to end that heroic run.

Liverpool host Tottenham at Anfield on Wednesday night in front of the Amazon Prime cameras. And it is second versus first in the Premier League, with Spurs leading the table for the past few weeks.

Premier League match preview: Liverpool v Spurs

Mourinho has already picked up results against Chelsea, Manchester City and Arsenal in recent weeks and Spurs top the table having lost just once - not since the opening day of the season at Everton.

And he will be hoping his side put on another performance to end Liverpool's long unbeaten run and take them clear at the top of the table.

The recent results against the big teams have been based on a solid defensive display, but former Spurs player Dimitar Berbatov thinks Moruinho could employ a different tactic at Anfield.

Speaking to Betfair he said: "The biggest game of the week is almost upon us as Spurs take on Liverpool and maybe Mourinho will go for the surprise in this one.

"How many injured players do Liverpool have? The likes of [Virgil] Van Dijk, Thiago [Alcantara] and Trent [Alexander-Arnold] is coming back from injury. Defensively they are still lacking some players. If Jose is brave enough and wants to surprise the opposition, maybe he will try a new approach.

"But when you think about it the other way, it is a big game for both teams, because at the moment Spurs are first and Liverpool are second. If the game finishes a draw it will be a good result for both teams even if Leicester win and then can go first.

"In games like this, sometimes you don’t want to risk it like the Manchester Derby. It could be a boring game unless we maybe see a goal in the first 10 or 15 minutes which can shape things up and make the other team take more risks.

"Maybe Spurs will continue to play the way they are and you cannot blame them as they are getting results. They are first, so why change. I’m backing them to win though."
