Davide Zappacosta could play an important role in helping Chelsea secure the transfer of Achraf Hakimi this summer, according to reports.
That's because Zappacosta, who has not played for the Blues since 2019 and has been out of favour at Stamford Bridge for several seasons, is said to have been offered to Inter Milan by his agent as a replacement for Hakimi.
The 29-year-old enjoyed a successful loan spell in Serie A last season with Genoa which has attracted the attention of some of Italy's top clubs once again. And it seems like Zappacosta's agent is desperate to get him a move away from the Blues.
According to Italian outlet Nerazzurri Siamo Noi, Zappacosta has been offered to Inter by his agent as a potential replacement for Hakimi. Zappacosta arrived at Stamford Bridge with a lot of promise but he failed to adapt to the rhythm of the Premier League and break into Chelsea's starting XI.
He made 25 appearances for Genoa last season scoring four goals and registering two assists.
With Chelsea reportedly interested in Hakimi and in a battle to sign the Moroccan international with Paris Saint Germain, Zappacosta could give the Blues an advantage in negotiations.
By offering a direct replacement for Hakimi, the club could carve out a chunk of Inter's asking price and also make their offer more appealing to the Italian club.
Though Inter do not seem to be as keen on the Chelsea full-back with their interest and priority reportedly on Hector Bellerin.
Nonetheless, Davide Zappacosta will likely depart on a permanent move this summer as Thomas Tuchel looks to clearout some of the club's deadwood in a bid to raise funds.
Whether Davide Zappacosta could play a role in the club's pursuit for Achraf Hakimi remains to be seen. Chelsea are certainly keen on the Inter wing-back with Tuchel an admirer.
