The surprise role Antonio Conte could play in helping Chelsea clinch Kai Havertz transfer

Talk to any Chelsea fan at the moment and it is highly unlikely that you would be able to go more than a few sentences without mentioning Kai Havertz's name.

The Germany international, who has starred for Bayer Leverkusen in the Bundesliga this season, is high up on Chelsea's transfer wish list ahead of the summer window opening for business.

The Blues, who will be looking to record a third successive Premier League win when they travel to Bramall Lane to face Sheffield United on Saturday, have been monitoring Havertz's movements for several months, with the club desperate to secure his signature.

However, any hopes Chelsea may have had of landing Havertz easily have been dashed, with Real Madrid also keen on landing the 21-year-old, who is capable of playing as an attacking-midfielder or a striker.

Frank Lampard on Emerson and transfers

It is understood that Leverkusen are willing to accept an offer of somewhere in the region of £70million - £90million for the talented star, who netted 17 goals in all competitions for Leverkusen this season.

It is, of course, a massive amount of money that Chelsea would have to pay to lure him to Stamford Bridge, especially when they have already splashed out more than £80million on securing the services of Hakim Ziyech from Ajax and RB Leipzig striker Timo Werner.

But the Blues mean business and are not likely to give up on signing Havertz easily.

And it now appears as though the Blues could be handed a helping hand in funding a move for the midfielder by former manager and now-Inter Milan chief Antonio Conte.

According to a report by Goal, Conte is keen on signing Chelsea duo Emerson Palmieri and Olivier Giroud, as he aims to strengthen his Inter squad at the San Siro.

The report states that Inter are willing to offer the Blues £19million for left-back Emerson, whilst they continue to express an interest in Giroud, who has been linked with a move to the Serie A giants for a lengthy amount of time.

Chelsea are almost certain to be open to the idea of offloading Emerson in the next transfer window, with the left-back having fallen down the pecking order in West London.

As well as that, Lampard is also keen on adding Leicester City left-back Ben Chilwell to his squad, meaning Emerson would most likely fall to third in the pecking order for the left-back berth, with Marcos Alonso and Chilwell ahead of him.

Should Inter press ahead with plans to sign both Emerson and Giroud, it could go an awfully long way in boosting Chelsea's chances of being able to complete a deal for Havertz, with the funds raised from the sales Emerson and Giroud contributing to Chelsea's transfer kitty.
