The surprise former Arsenal star Aaron Ramsdale will hope to emulate against Tottenham

Arsenal goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale could join former Gunner Alex Manninger on an obscure Premier League record in the North London Derby against Tottenham.

The Gunners take on their historic rivals on Sunday at the Emirates Stadium aiming to secure their third consecutive Premier League victory following slender 1-0 wins against Norwich City and Burnley.

Having arrived at the club from Sheffield United, Ramsdale has established himself as Mikel Arteta’s number one goalkeeper and should he start once more against Spurs, he could well secure an obscure Gunners record.

According to the Premier League, he could become just the third goalkeeper in Arsenal history to keep clean sheets in his first three Gunners appearances in the Premier League.

The only other stoppers to have achieved that feat have been Alex Manninger, who represented the club between 1997 and 2002, and David Ospina. The Colombian spent four seasons with the Gunners before departing for Napoli initially on loan in 2018.

As a matter of fact, Ramsdale could also become the first Arsenal goalkeeper to keep a clean sheet against London rivals Tottenham since Petr Cech during a 2-0 victory at the Emirates Stadium back in November 2017.

Before the match, Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta was coy on his No.1 choice between the sticks.

When asked if Ramsdale was his first choice stopper in his pre-match press conference, the Spaniard replied: "Well done for trying. You will see the line up on Sunday. As you understand I cannot give anything away."

Ramsdale has so far made three appearances in all competitions for the Gunners since joining from Sheffield United and has managed to keep clean sheets in each game having not yet conceded a goal.
