The supermarket hot cross buns voted the best in a Good Housekeeping taste test

Aldi's hot cross buns have topped the Good Housekeeping's Easter Taste Test this year.

The bargain supermarket won the prestigious title of Best Hot Cross Bun for its Specially Selected Luxury Fruited Hot Cross Buns.

A pack of four of Aldi's tasty buns will only set you back 99p, the Mirror reports.

The buns scored an impressive 88/100, beating the likes of Tesco, Iceland, Sainsbury's and oft-revered Marks & Spencer.

You can find your nearest Aldi, here if you want to get your hands on some to taste test yourself.

You’ll also find the most up-to-date information on opening times there too.

Aldi's beat all other buns (Aldi)

Aldi has a vast range of hot cross bun options this year.

There are the Salted Caramel and Belgian Chocolate flavour (also 99p for a four pack) and even the more unusual Chilli and Cheese variety, priced at £1.09 for four.

There's also the super sweet Honeycomb bun, priced at £1.09 for four too.

Those land in stores from February 25.

The award-winning buns are 66p cheaper than Marks and Spencer's version, and they're 20 per cent cheaper than Sainsbury's too.

Stacey Smith, food and drink editor at the Good Housekeeping Institute praised the deliciously sweet treat for its “toffee-like sultanas”, as well as its subtle hints of cinnamon and clove.

She said: “Aldi’s Hot Cross Buns are clearly a great pick for those on a budget (but not willing to compromise on taste!).”

Julie Ashfield, managing director of buying at Aldi UK, said: “It is fantastic to see our hot coss buns recognised for their taste, quality and value for money.

"It’s testament to the care and commitment that goes into bringing fabulous products to our shoppers at great value.”

As for other Easter treats, Baileys has launched gold-finished chocolate mini eggs in time for Easter.

Marks and Spencer has unveiled its Easter 2021 food range, including a giant chocolate Percy Pig and cheese hot cross buns.

And Tesco is sellling 28 exclusive Easter eggs, including Cadbury Orange Buttons Giant Egg.

Tesco is stocking more than 200 chocolate Easter eggs this year, with prices starting at just 50p.

Shoppers can get hold of 28 exclusives, including the Twix White Chocolate Easter Egg and Cadbury Orange Buttons Giant Egg.
