The super easy jam doughnut recipe hack that requires two slices of bread

Sticky, sweet and ever so yummy, the classic jam doughnut is loved by adults and kids alike.

If weeks spent in lockdown has inspired you to get baking, this recipe is a must-try.

It's super easy, cheap to make and you've probably already got all of the ingredients in your kitchen cupboard so there's no need to dash to the supermarket.

The cheat recipe made by Instagram baker @cakeontherun requires just sliced bread, jam, sugar and butter.

You also don't need any professional equipment or a deep fat fryer, a standard frying pan will do.

The straightforward recipe can be customised to your hearts content.

Perhaps roll your doughnuts in cinnamon sugar or fill them with chocolate spread instead.

The jam doughnut recipe hack you wish you had known sooner

Jam doughnut (serves 1)

Ingredients:

  • Two slices of bread (thick, white is best, but any will do)
  • 1 tbsp jam
  • 1 tbsp butter
  • 1 tbsp sugar

Method:

  1. Place two slices of bread on a chopping board and place a spoonful of jam in the centre of one slice.
  2. Put the second slice on top and use the bottom of a mug or glass to cut a round circle (like a cookie cutter).
  3. Press the edges down to make a pocket.
  4. Put the butter in a hot frying pan and then pop the doughnut into it, flipping until golden.
  5. Take the doughnut out of the pan and roll in sugar.
