The sunglasses shapes set to be big for summer 2020

The sun will, with any luck, have his proverbial hat on once again this weekend.

And with our daily strolls now unfettered and unchecked, wouldn't this be a great time to unleash a seriously fabulous pair of new specs?

But how to choose. The season's shades come in all sorts of deliciously playful forms, from oversized squares to colourful classics, there's a spec in which everyone can make a spectacle. Just leave those awkwardly tiny 90s-esque peepers you bought last summer at home, they're on full quarantine, I'm afraid.

These are the new season styles to know...

Order all the sides

If there's one major specs trend we've noticed this season, it's that attention is being lavished on wide arms. From logos to bling, opt for glamorous, vintage shapes with plenty going on at the sides.

Seventies aviators

Steady now, when we say aviators we are not talking those blue mirrored lens round-edge Ray Ban's everyone took a shining to back in 2004, we are specifically looking for vintage seventies pilot vibes.

Black and classic

More of a purist in the sunglasses department? You'll be pleased to know that classic black wayfarer and cat eye shapes are firmly back on the menu this season. If you can get your hands on a pair of the Celine black cat eye 41468 style then you've hit the fashion jackpot, but if not a pair of classic black Ray Ban wayfarers or one of the below selects will do nicely.

Granny chic

Sunglasses had been getting teenier and teenier... so small in fact they barely shielded our peepers from the glare. It's a relief then that this season oversized specs are back, and in a big way. Go for giant square shapes with a mega retro feel. Perfect for disguising that Zoom hangover.

Really rather good rectangles

Echoing the matrix-esque '90s sunnies of last summer, this season it's all about chunky rectangular silhouettes. Go for thick frames in even bolder colours.
