The summer transfer window and the key dates for Premier League and Football League clubs

The summer transfer window is well underway.

Clubs across the leagues have been bolstering their ranks as well as retaining the services of key players.

A significant sum of money is expected to be spent, particularly by the Premier League’s established clubs, and those fees could spark a domino effect in the market.

Here’s everything you need to know about the transfer window.

When did the summer transfer window open?

The summer transfer window for domestic deals opened for business 00:01 on Thursday May 16th.

However the international window is controlled by FIFA.

The date that FIFA’s window began on Sunday June 9th, which is when transfers from abroad can be finalised.

When will the summer transfer window close?

The transfer window in the Premier League closes on Thursday, August 8 at 5pm, just before the start of the new season, but clubs can still sell players to other nations if the window in that country remains open.

The transfer window in France, Spain and Germany closes on August 31, while Italy’s transfer window concludes on August 18.

What about Championship and EFL clubs?

The Sky Bet Championship transfer window will close on the same date as the Premier League (August 8th) following a vote earlier in the season.

However, the window will remain open for clubs in League One and League Two until a later date, which has been confirmed as Monday, September 2 at 5pm.
