James Gunn has warned fans against a casting ad for his movie The Suicide Squad, which he says constitutes a “scam”.
The director shared the warning on Instagram over the weekend, posting a screenshot of the ad and writing: “This is a SCAM. It’s not even the name of the movie.
“I have no idea what someone has to gain from this con, but please beware of unscrupulous folks online.
“Thanks to the DC fans out there who brought it to my attention.”
The ad, which claims to be for the film Suicide Squad 2 (as Gunn’s film was referred to before it was renamed The Suicide Squad), says that the film’s team are looking for people between the ages of 18 to 50 to play soldiers.
It promises a pay of $150 per day as well as the opportunity to work on scenes with Margot Robbie, Idris Elba and John Cena.
Robbie and Elba are set to star in Gunn’s film, while Cena’s name has been floated for a possible role.
Nathan Fillion has joined the film in a mystery role, according to Deadline.
The Suicide Squad has been labelled a relaunch of the DC franchise rather than a sequel to the 2016 film starring Robbie and Jared Leto.
It’s planned for release in 2021.
